Greetings Brothers & Sisters,
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to chair the Scholarship Program again for the 2022-2023 year. I had so much fun last year. First, let me introduce myself to those of you who do not know me. My name is Debbie Little but at the Auxiliary I answer to Cookie. As you know, our current Department President is also a Debby, so call me Cookie. I am currently your Department Sr. Vice President as well.
First up for scholarships is the Post Scholarships for Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen. Those submissions are due to the Post October 31, 2022. Work with your Post to get the information to the schools. I know that school is out for the summer, but office staff work year-round, so get that information out to the schools. Count all your time spent working with the Post for these two contests.
Now is the time to begin promoting the Auxiliary Scholarship for Patriotic Art. I know that Oregon has some phenomenal artists in our high schools. Promote the program as soon as school starts again. These artists need time to create their art pieces.
I cannot stress how important it is to apply for the Continuing Education Scholarship at both the National and Department level. When I asked at Convention how many people were going to school themselves, had children or grandchildren attending college many hands were raised. And yet, I only received three (3) applications for the scholarship. It is basically free money. The application is simple, and the essay is 300 words. Apply, apply, apply. I like to give away money.
Remember to report, report, report. I would prefer to receive monthly reports from each Auxiliary as it makes my job at the end of the program year so much smoother if I have been receiving reports all along. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, contact me.
